Woe to Those Who Offend Grandma

My high school became a dinosaur some years ago, and a brand new facility was constructed for generations who followed me to learn the ways of the world.

But what ways are they learning?

Two years ago Harvard University revoked admission to their institution of higher learning in the cases of 10 potential students found to have made offensive posts at the wonderful world of Facebook.

As a result of Harvard’s decision, one private high school advised its students with college ambitions to refrain from posting anything on social media that would offend their grandmothers.

Because grandma is a dependable measuring stick for social behavioral and communication skills, today’s numerous mindless daily posts on social media will not always pass her test of proper language shares.

Students beware. Offending grandma’s senses, or bragging about your little on the cusp pranks, or outright wrongdoings, won’t enhance your college acceptance chances.

Fractured opinions divided Harvard’s ouster with the “free speech” argument.

Our American Constitution, its thoughtful, original Amendments, and the Bill of Rights, unfortunately, were written in a time when civility and citizenship spoke of worthiness without being subject to the constant blast of social media.

Language and communication skills were easier in the Past. Weren’t they?
